Description:
8/3/2011 This place reminds me a bit of Cafe Sunflower. Their dishes are mostly Kosher. They use a lot of soy products instead of meat. I ordered the sausage and pepper dish over brown rice. The sausage was again made out of soy, but it tasted just like sausage. Their seasoning is great. It has a lot of flavor and it's a large portion.
I like this place a bit better than Cafe Sunflower because it's conveniently located across from where I live and it's more affordable. Their menu is also a bit larger. I'm not a vegetarian, but I don't always want to be eating red meat, so this is a nice alternative. I would watch out for their hours of operation, as they are closed on days/hours you would think they should be open
Type of Meals Served:
Mostly Kosher, A variety of Salads, Pizza, Sandwiches and Vegetarian. It's right in my 'hood and mostly vegetarian (although they do serve fish). Alas, I didn't try Broadway Cafe until Scoutmob featured them.
My dinner was definitely good. I got the "chicken" buffalo sandwich on ciabatta bread with a side of fries. (A side isn't included with sandwiches, but you can add one for 1.50.) The sandwiches are fairly small. I wasn't famished, so that was fine by me, but something to be aware of if you're super hungry. The sandwich was definitely good. I couldn't quite place their veggie chicken--it's not seitan or gardein, and not tofu or tempeh. The sauce on it was tasty and it was a nice little sandwich. Fries were good, with a generous shake of seasoned salt. They looked sort of greasy; I didn't care. Fries are my jam. It's bad, I know. Only bummer is they serve them with a little souffle cup of ketchup. I'm a fan of orange sauce.
Prices are, in my opinion, a little steep. Obviously with a Scoutmob it was super reasonable, but (small) sandwiches are about seven bucks before you add on a side, and the more hearty entrees clock in at twelve and thirteen bucks.

7/10/2011 Hidden gem with friendly owner who seemingly knows everyone by name or at least by their typical order. You can never go wrong w the bibimbop or hoagie though the soondooboo and sulungtang may be a bit adventurous for those not familiar w Korean food. Overall it has a small menu but does all of them well. Only downside is no phone orders and used to be that no credit cards were accepted, but he's begun to take MC/Visa so that's helped out a lot. Beware, Mr. Chang does keep very strict hours and will sometimes close the door right on the dot (or 15 minutes before closing) so be sure to get there during normal hours.
